Honeymoon in Aruba: Day 1

Ryan and I stayed at the Skirvin Hotel the night of the wedding. Unfortunately, our flight to Atlanta was so early that we had to leave the hotel at 3:30 a.m. by cab to get to the airport. Surprisingly, Ryan seemed to be wide awake. I, on the other hand, was not! As a matter of fact, I took a nap in the Lobby of the Skirvin while waiting for the cab!

Our flights from OKC to Atlanta and Atlanta to Aruba were both on time and we landed in Aruba around 2 in the afternoon. As we were descending in the air we could see the view of the entire island and it is rather small (but oh so beautiful). Stepping out of the airport was like stepping into a huge party. Apparently Aruba's baseball team had just one the championship and the entire island was celebrating. Live music was blaring, people were dancing and shouting. It was crazy!

We took a cab to the car rental place. Traffic was insane due to the celebration going on. Once we got our rental jeep we headed to the hotel. Of course we were stuck in the middle of a parade for awhile, but it was quite interesting.

We were finally in our villa around 4:30 p.m. and spent time unpacking and getting ready for dinner. Ryan made us reservations at Ruths Chris Steakhouse in the hotel. I have never been to one and his parents had given us a gift card to eat there. Our dinner was perfect!

We ordered a bottle of wine, enjoyed jumbo shrimp cocktail as an appetizer and indulged in crab cakes and filet mignon.

The service was outstanding and the waitstaff even gave us a dessert on the house in honor of our honeymoon! What a way to spend our first dinner together as a married couple. :)

We wandered around after dinner for a bit, exploring the hotel and went to bed early considering the lack of sleep we had the night before.
